Breathe Better: We tested Molekule vs. Blueair head to head, and only one came out on top

Words by Attia Taylor

This is a paid partnership with Molekule. The Womanly team is dedicated to finding and telling you about our favorite products and brands. We only endorse products we believe in.

As indoor air quality becomes more of a daily wellness concern, we took a deeper look at what products are out there, and which ones work the best.

We tested 2 of the most popular models on the market: the Molekule Air Mini+ and the Blueair Pure 211i Max. These fall at roughly the same price point, with the Molekule Air Mini+ coming in at $359, and the Blueair 211i Max at $349.99. Both promise cleaner, healthier air. But after setting them up and testing them in our homes, only one felt like the right fit for most.

We compared them on 5 categories:

  • Design and Visual Appeal

  • Filtration Technology

  • Smart Features

  • Coverage and Room Size

  • Overall Practicality

Here’s what we found.

Design & Visual Appeal

What we looked at: how each purifier looks, fits, and feels in a real home.

Molekule Air Mini+
In our tests, the Mini+ felt more like a design object than an appliance. It’s about a foot tall, with a soft matte finish and a leather handle that makes it easy to move from room to room. The rounded shape and quiet hum made it disappear into the background. This is exactly what I want from something that runs 24/7 in my home. Something that looks good, is quiet, and blends in.

Two modern air purifiers sit on a hardwood floor near a doorway, with a leafy houseplant in the background.

Left Molekule Air Mini+, Right Blueair Pure 211i Max

Blueair Pure 211i Max
This model is much larger than Molekule. It’s roughly the size of a small end table and sits directly on the floor. I live in a small apartment and the size and shape of the Blueair Pure 211i Max is a no-go for me. If you don’t mind a large device in your home, this is the air purifier for you. But overall, Molekule’s discreet and dainty presence makes it an easy win in this category. Winner: Molekule Air Mini+
Compact, stylish, and easy to live with.

Filtration Technology

What we looked at: how each device actually cleans the air.

Molekule Air Mini+
Molekule uses a three-part filter called PECO-HEPA Tri-Power. In plain English: it destroys what hepa leaves behind, captures odors, and uses proprietary PECO technology to break down pollutants such as bacteria, viruses, and mold. Because of this PECO tech, the Mini+ is actually FDA-cleared as a medical device to destroy bacteria and viruses.

In everyday use, that means fewer lingering odors and more peace of mind when allergy season or cold season hits.

Blueair Pure 211i Max
Blueair’s system is highly effective at capturing pollen, dust, and smoke. But it only traps these particles; it doesn’t destroy viruses and bacteria like the Molekule Air Mini+.

Winner: Molekule Air Mini+
The only purifier here that doesn’t just capture harmful pollutants, it actually destroys the things that make you and your family sick.

Smart Features

What we looked at: connectivity, sensors, and day-to-day ease of use.

Both purifiers connect to their own mobile apps and work with Alexa and Google Home. You can check air quality, set schedules, or switch modes without touching the device.

The Molekule app has a clean, minimal interface and an Auto Protect mode that adjusts fan speed automatically based on air quality. The Blueair app goes a bit deeper with live readings of different particle sizes and a “welcome home” feature that powers up when you arrive.

Result: It’s a tie!
Molekule wins for ease of use; Blueair wins for data detail.

Coverage & Room Size (Does Bigger Mean Better?)

What we looked at: how much space each unit can realistically handle.

Molekule Air Mini+
Rated for rooms up to 250 square feet, it’s the perfect size for bedrooms, nurseries, or home offices.

Blueair Pure 211i Max
Blueair covers a larger area — cleaning a space of up to 674 square feet in about 12½ minutes, making it a better fit for open-plan living spaces or big primary bedrooms.

However, keep in mind that because the air in your home doesn’t circulate freely between rooms, you’ll need a purifier for each room that you want to clean. So depending on your space, the larger device may have limited benefit. In my Brooklyn apartment, my largest room is 210 square feet, so the Blueair felt a bit like overkill for me.

Winner: Blueair Pure 211i Max
Bigger coverage, faster cleaning. Just make sure you have the floor space to match.

Everyday Practicality

What we looked at: noise, size, upkeep, and convenience.

Molekule Air Mini+
At just over seven pounds, it’s easy to pick up and move. The filter lasts around six months, and replacement is simple. It’s whisper-quiet on low and comfortable even on medium speeds, making it ideal for sleeping or working nearby.

Blueair Pure 211i Max
Larger and heavier (16 pounds!), the 211i Max is meant to stay put. It’s quiet on low but audible at top speed.

Both purifiers have convenient app features and easy-to-replace filters that come in at similar price points (Molekule filters are slightly more expensive at $84.99, Blueair at $69.99)

Winner: Molekule Air Mini+
Smaller, lighter, and easier to live with day to day.

The Final Verdict

After testing both products, our preference is clear. The Molekule Air Mini+ strikes the better balance of size and sleek design, and its technology is more effective and goes the extra mile to keep your family healthy.

Its PECO-HEPA Tri-Power system doesn’t just trap pollutants; it destroys them. It’s FDA-cleared, thoughtfully designed, and quiet enough to forget it’s on.

Our pick: Molekule Air Mini+.
A small purifier that does big work, and looks good doing it.
