My lovin’ doesn’t feel gray / My lovin’ isn’t lackin’ color / vibrance, richness / My lovin’ is tea that / needs to steep / a little longer than others / butterfly pea / sweet, blue water / watercolor dip / dye / tie dye / submerge, soak, absorb / a color…or two / a rainbow savored / a cherry-tattooed tongue / long after the icy sugar / melts / a window that reveals / iridescent secrets / when the light catches just right / a revelation / a sweater / worn down to a special / softness / Maybe my lovin’ is / lavender / but it’s neither shy nor gentle / it’s the sky / after summer storms / evidence / that you’ve endured / something / grand and natural


About the author

With a B.F.A in writing from the Savannah College of Art and Design, Ka’Dia Dhatnubia has published a personal essay with Black Femme Collective, features with Savannah Magazine and Savannah Morning News, and poetry with Torch Literary Arts, Pandemic Post, and Peanut Butter Shrimp. She works full-time as a program manager for Deep Center, organizing arts, creative writing, and spoken word programming for high school youth in the Savannah-Chatham County area. She is a member of the Society of Illustrators and has been awarded in professional illustration competitions including 3X3 Magazine, American Illustration, Graphics, and MoCCA. Wenjia uses both traditional and digital media, using bright, refreshing, and tender color palettes to catch the audience’s eye.
